A new set of lesser charges has been brought against an Oil City man who was accused of physically assaulting two young girls.
22 year-old Charles Alden is now charged with two counts of simple assault.
Through a decision that was apparently made through the Venango County District Attorney’s office, the original charges against Alden, including aggravated assault, involuntary restraint, making terroristic threats, criminal coercion and reckless endangerment were withdrawn. Bail for Alden remains at $50,000.
Two girls, ages 11 and 10, have claimed Alden beat them with a hammer and his fists at a residence on East Fourth Street in Oil City on June 11. Alden also allegedly threatened to kill the girls and burn down their mother’s house.
