The Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department was back in operation on Wednesday following the department’s recertification by the Plum Township supervisors on Tuesday night.
A new board president and fire chief were appointed for the department, and supervisors approved a motion that representatives from the Plum and Troy Township municipal governments be included as voting members of the board.
Supervisors decertified the department in November following the refusal of a number of department officers to step down at the supervisors’ insistence. At the time, the supervisors board did not list a reason for their demand, but the department’s treasurer, 41 year-old Kimberly Keener, was charged over the winter with the misuse of about $33,000 in department funds. The officers who had refused to resign were all members of Keener’s family.
