The Cleveland Cavaliers made UNLV freshman forward Anthony Bennett a surprise selection as the top pick in the annual NBA draft in New York on Thursday night. Bennett is the first native of Canada to be the number-one pick.
With four of the top 33 choices, the Cavs also found themselves with the #19 overall pick, and chose Russian forward Sergey Karasev.
Following the selection of Bennett, Orlando drafted Indiana guard Victor Oladipo, Washington nabbed Georgetown forward Otto Porter, Jr., Charlotte went with Indiana center Cody Zeller, and Phoenix picked Maryland center Alex Len.
Kentucky center Nerlens Noel, expected by many to be the number-one pick, was drafted by New Orleans, who then traded his rights to the Philadelphia 76ers.
