The Mercer County coroner’s office has ruled the shooting death of a Carlton man last month a homicide.

The announcement was made Friday following the disclosure of the results of an autopsy conducted in Erie.

The body of 58 year-old David Dignall was found on the afternoon of December 20 outside a partially-burned minivan along Hollobaugh Road in Mercer County’s French Creek Township.  The autopsy shows Dignall died from a single shotgun blast to the back.

Initial reports indicated the body had also received burns.

The State Police at the Mercer County station have released no recent updates to their investigation.
