The Better Business Bureau is urging people to be wary of telephone calls from anyone claiming to be from the “National Do Not Call Registry,” or stating they are from the Federal Trade Commission and are inquiring about “Do Not Call.”
The BBB says the callers either state they are registering people for the “Do Not Call” list, or are trying to verify information from those who already are on the list. They ask for a name, address and social security number. Some claim registration on the list may be expiring.
The BBB says the Do Not Call Registry does not call about information, and registration on the list never expires. Information given to such a caller can be used in identity theft schemes.
