Authorities in Butler County say they have charged a Butler bus driver in the fatal crash between a train and his bus at an Evans City intersection two weeks ago.
60 year-old Frank Schaffner was one of eleven people who was injured in the April 26 crash. Two of his passengers, 91 year-old Claudette Miller, from Callery, and 88 year-old John Burkett, from Zelienople, later died as the result of their injuries.
Early reports indicated that the bus had stopped in fog on the tracks at a railroad crossing. Prosecutors now say that cameras show that Schaffner never made an attempt to even slow down as he approached the crossing.
Schaffner has been charged with multiple counts, including vehicular homicide and manslaughter. He turned himself in to police on Thursday, was arraigned, and is now free on bond.
