Three Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers held the Chicago Cubs to just two hits in a 3-0 shutout win at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.

Starter Wandy Rodriguez  threw 2-hit ball over 6-and-two-third innings, striking out six batters and walking only one, but he loaded the bases by hitting two batters in the seventh inning, and was replaced by Tony Watson.  Watson induced a fly ball out to end the inning, and pitched a scoreless eighth frame.  Jason Grilli, retired the side in order in the ninth inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced to earn the save.

Pittsburgh (1-1) scored their first two runs in the fourth inning on a single by Garrett Jones, an RBI double by Andrew McCutchen and an error charged to the Cubs’ Starlin Castro.  Clint Barmes doubled and scored on a Starling Marte single in the seventh inning.

The Bucs and Cubs will finish their three-game series at 12:35 PM on Thursday with Pittsburgh’s James McDonald facing Chicago’s Travis Wood.
