The Cleveland Browns have hired former Browns assistant coach Rob Chudzinski as their new head coach.
The 44 year-old Chudzinski, an Ohio native, replaces Pat Shurmur, who was fired after Cleveland’s 5-11 season. He will spend his third stint in Cleveland, having spent time as the Browns’ tight ends coach under Butch Davis in 2004 and the team’s offensive coordinator under Romeo Crennel in 2007.
Chudzinski also has been the tight ends coach for the San Diego Chargers, and most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.
He was interviewed by the Browns on Wednesday, and the team announced his hiring on Thursday following that day’s second interview with former Arizona cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt.
