Ryan Willison scored 28 points – all but ten of his team’s total – but the Brockway Rovers (15-7) topped the Cranberry Berries 45-38 in the District 9 “AA” boys basketball championship game played Friday night at Tippin Gymnasium at Clarion University.
Clay Anderson led the Rovers with 20 points. In the boys’ “AA” class, only the champion advances to the PIAA state tournament, so Cranberry’s season ends at 14-10. Brockway advances to meet Mercyhurst Prep, the D-10 3rd-place team, on Saturday at 7:30 PM back at Clarion.
Willison finished four years of varsity basketball as Cranberry’s all-time top scorer with 1,771 points. That figure is second to Dylan Gravatt, of Rocky Grove, in all of Venango County boys basketball history, and ranks Willison 11th overall in the annals of District 9 boys basketball.
