A coroner is terming the fatal shooting of a seven year-old Fredonia-area boy an accident.
Investigators say young Craig Wolfe-Loughery died Saturday morning when a handgun being placed in the console of a pickup by the boy’s father discharged. A bullet from the gun struck the boy as he was settling himself into the passenger’s seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragic incident occurred in the parking lot of a gun store in East Lackawannock Township near Mercer. The father, 44 year-old Joseph Loughery, from Jefferson Township, had reportedly been in the store negotiating to sell some guns.
The investigation into the shooting continues. The Mercer County District Attorney has not yet issued a ruling in the incidnt.
