The body of a female found by workers in a garbage company landfill near Grove City on Wednesday has been identified as that of a 16 year-old girl from Ohio who had been reported missing by her family last Monday night.
The Mercer Country Coroner’s office says the girl had been stabbed in the chest. Her body was found by landfill workers on a property in Pine Township.
The teen was identified on Friday as Gina Burger, from Austintown. Early reports indicate the identification was made through the use of medical charts. The victim had once undergone back surgery in Texas.
State Police from the Mercer County station in Jackson Center began their investigation into the teen’s death on Wednesday, even before identification on the body had been officially confirmed.
