A state Senator is considering legislation that would allow trained school staff members to carry firearms.

Senator Don White told Radio PA News that teachers within his district in the Indiana County area have approached him, suggesting they be given access to firearms in the schools so they can protect and defend students and themselves.  So, White has decided to draft a Senate bill that would enable school boards to decide to allow licensed and trained staff to carry firearms.

Teachers have told White they would bear the cost of training.

While passage of the bill is considered a longshot, White says the topic brings up a conversation worth having.
