The Colorado Avalanche scored twice in the final period on Monday night to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2-1 in the final game of a season-high five-game homestand for the Penguins.

Mark Barberio broke a scoreless tie with a goal at the 6:17 mark of the third period, and former Penguin Blake Comeau added an empty-netter before Pittsburgh’s leading scorer, Phil Kessel, tallied the Pens’ loan goal with eleven seconds remaining – his fifteenth of the season.

Pittsburgh rookie Tristan Jarry (5-2-2) made 26 saves, but took the loss.  The winning goaltender was Jonathan Bernier (5-6-1), who stopped 39-of-40 shots.

The Penguins will travel to Las Vegas for a Thursday night game against the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.  Radio pregame airtime on 96.3 KQW will be 9:30 PM.

On Tuesday, Pittsburgh reactivated goaltender Matt Murray from the injured list, and sent goalie Casey DeSmith back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
