The case of a Lawrence County teenager found delinquent in juvenile court in the shooting deaths of his father’s girlfriend and her unborn son has been appealed to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
The appeal concerning 16 year-old Jordan Brown, from the Wampum area, requests a new trial.
Brown was 11 in 2009 when he was accused in the deaths of 26 year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn child. Houk had been sleeping on a couch in Brown’s father’s home.
Extensive court proceedings were held before Brown’s case was moved from adult court to the juvenile system. The “delinquent” verdict handed down in 2012 in juvenile court is the equivalent of “guilty” in adult proceedings. But, the state’s Superior Court overturned the decision.
Brown has remained in custody since the shootings which took place five years ago in New Beaver Borough.
