The latest confirmed case of an animal testing positive for rabies comes from Mercer County,

In Coolspring Township near Mercer, a woman turned over a dead bat that two pet cats found in her home to be tested.  The bat showed a positive test for rabies.

Officials say the woman’s cats have been quarantined for a six-month period.  The pets had, at one time, been vaccinated for rabies, but their inoculation period had expired.

The Mercer County report follows stories involving a rabid bat in Clarion County, and a rabid fox that attacked a dog last week in Forest County.
