Tomas Vokoun and the Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the Winnipeg Jets 4-0 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh on Thursday night for the team’s 14th consecutive victory, and the points lead in the entire National Hockey League.
The Pens have allowed only nine goals in their last ten games. Vokoun (9-3) earned the shutout, the 50th of his career. The blank job was the fourth of the year for the Penguins (27-8), and their third in the last seven games.
Pascal Dupuis tallied two goals Thursday, while Chris Kunitz recorded a goal and an assist, Sidney Crosby added two assists, and Evgeni Malkin – in his return to the lineup after showing concussion-like symptoms – scored his sixth goal of the season. Vokoun stopped twenty shots.
Al Montoya (3-1) faced 43 shots in goal for the Jets (18-15-2), and stopped 39.
The Penguins will try for a perfect month of March in a Saturday afternoon (1:00 PM) home game against the New York Islanders (16-15-1). Radio pregame time on 96.3 KQW will be 12:30 PM.
