Altoona Curve Claim Second Eastern League Championship

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Max Keller led the way with a four-hit starting performance over seven-and-a-third innings on Thursday as the Altoona Curve won their second Eastern League baseball championship, defeating Trenton 4-2 and completing a three-game sweep in the league’s best-of-three title series.

Keller struck out eight hitters, walked one, and induced eleven ground ball outs, winning his second straight “AA” postseason start.  Keller had one-hit Bowie in the Eastern League semifinals.  At one point in Thursday’s championship game, He retired 14 batters in a row.

Altoona, who had also swept Bowie in three games, won their previous title in 2010, defeating Trenton that year three-games-to-one.
