Almirola Wins At Daytona; Montoya Takes Indy Car Race At Pocono

Aric Almirola captured the rain-shortened Nascar Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday.

Delayed also due to rain from Saturday night, Almirola won a race that was marred by two massive crashes, one involving 25 vehicles.  Only seven drivers managed to avoid both wrecks.

Eleven different drivers have posted wins in the 16 races run so far in this year’s series.  In his third year in Sprint Cup racing, Almirola had previously cracked the top five in a race on four occasions.

Next week’s race, the Camping World RV Sales 301, will be run Sunday in Loudon, New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, the Indy Cup racers invaded Pocono Raceway in Long Pond over the weekend.  Juan Pablo Montoya won for the first time in the CART Series since 2000, and took his first victory in a Major since winning a NASCAR road course race at Watkins Glen in 2010.
