AAA Expects Heaviest Thanksgiving Travel Period In 12 Years

November 22, 2017

A spokesperson for AAA says her agency is projecting the highest Thanksgiving holiday travel volume in twelve years.

Jana Tidwell told Radio PA News that about eighty-eight percent of those who will travel fifty or more miles from home will go by motor vehicle.  About nine percent will fly.

An estimated 1.9 million Pennsylvania residents will be traveling, a three-and-a-half percent increase over last year’s Thanksgiving holiday.

The travel agency posts the present average price for regular gasoline in Pennsylvania at $2.78 per gallon, up 42 cents from last Thanksgiving, but Tidwell says a stronger economy and labor market are enabling more people to spend money on holiday travel.
