Tom Savage threw a touchdown pass to Devin Street, and Erie McDowell’s James Conner scored on a TD run, and the Pitt Panthers (3-1; 2-1 ACC) defeated Virginia 14-3 in an Atlantic Coast Conference game played Saturday afternoon at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
Savage threw for 191 yards and two interceptions before he left the game in the fourth quarter with a possible concussion. His status is uncertain. Pitt has next weekend off, and will not play again until a road contest at Virginia Tech on October 12.
Pitt’s Tyler Boyd caught seven passes for 11 yards, becoming just the second freshman in Pitt history to top 100 yards in receiving in three consecutive games. Conner, another freshman, was held to 27 rushing yards for a Pitt team that, due to seven Virginia sacks of Savage, recorded just to 11 net rushing yards. Pitt, meanwhile, held the Cavaliers (2-2; 0-1) only 65 net rushing yards.
