5 Homers Among 21 Braves Hits In 18-9 Win Over Pirates

The Atlanta Braves slammed five home runs on Wednesday afternoon to power past the Pittsburgh Pirates 18-9 in a preseason baseball game played in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Pirates (10-14) put up 16 hits to the 21 recorded by the Braves, but 14 of the Pittsburgh base hits were singles.

Freddie Freeman and Andrelton Simmons both homered twice and drove home four runs for Atlanta (15-11).  The Pirates managed 5 runs and 10 hits in four innings off Braves starter Mike Minor, but Pittsburgh starter Kyle McPherson allowed 9 runs (8 earned) and 10 hits in 4-and-two-thirds innings.  Bucs reliever Vin Mazarro surrendered 6 runs and 8 hits in one inning of work.

Offensively for Pittsburgh, Andrew McCutchen homered, Brandon Inge and Jordy Mercer both recorded two hits, and Michael McKenry drove in three runs with a single and a pair of sacrifice fly balls.

The Pirates will meet the Baltimore Orioles (15-6) in Sarasota on Thursday night.
