The Pittsburgh Penguins scored five times in the second period on Thursday night, and rolled to their fifth straight victory, a 5-2 home win over the Washington Capitals (2-8-1).
Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin both scored a goal and added two assists. Pascal Dupuis, James Neal and Matt Cooke also found the net for the Penguins (8-3). Marc-Andre Fleury (5-2) stopped 23 of 25 shots for his fifth win of the season in goal.
Mike Ribeiro and Alex Ovechkin scored for Washington.
Over the weekend, the Penguins will play a home-and-home series against the New Jersey Devils (6-1-3), who trail Pittsburgh by one point in the NHL’s Atlantic Division. Radio pregame airtimes on 96.3 KQW will be 12:30 PM on Saturday and 7:00 PM on Sunday.
