For the first time in three years, there has been no challenge in Venango County to any nominating petition filed by candidates for the May primary elections.
But, in Mercer County, two individuals have filed challenges against three of the five candidates looking to run for County Common Pleas Court Judge. Commonwealth Court will take up the challenges in the next two weeks.
Challenges were filed against the petitions presented by Joann Jofery, from Wheatland, Jim Ryan, from Sharpsville, and Daniel Wallace, from West Salem Township. The other judicial candidates would be Ryan Mergl and Victor Heutsche, both from Sharon.
Reports indicate that complaints about the challenged nominating petitions include allegations that voters signed for the wrong political party, some petitions were improperly notarized, and some voters signed for both their spouses and themselves.
