The Pittsburgh Pirates slammed 17 hits on Sunday afternoon in a Grapefruit League game in Bradenton, Florida, but an 8-run first inning for visiting Baltimore eventually led to a 12-10 victory for the Orioles.

Andrew McCutchen homered, and went 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored.  Gaby Sanchez and catching hopeful Lucas May both recorded three hits.

Baltimore scored eight runs (7 earned) on five hits, two walks, and a couple of Pittsburgh errors off the Pirates’ starter for the day, reliever Chris Leroux in just one-third of an inning.

On Saturday, Garrett Jones and Pedro Alvarez both homered in the Bucs’ 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers.  Alvarez went 2-for-4.

On Friday, Stefan Welch, who played third base last season for the “AA” Altoona Curve, slammed a three-run home run in his first Grapefruit League at-bat, giving Pittsburgh a 6-4 win in Bradenton over the Tampa Bay Rays.  Pirates starter Jeanmar Gomez, acquired in the offseason from Cleveland, pitched four innings, allowing only one run and just three hits.
